Geek Gadget

Fresh off the press (well, almost) is a brand new utility from Sysinternals. Disk2vhd converts your physical drive to a virtual hard drive, which can be mounted in Virtual PC and Hyper-V machines. I have been all over VM technologies lately, so this is a must-have.

Hmmm, if you guessed that I have already converted disks to VHDs then you are correct! It was easy as Sunday morning! I created a VHD of my primary laptop and mounted the VHD on another machine, nice! VM geeks, check it out as needed.

Demonic DVD

Wassup with my notebook's DVD player? I inserted a DVD and the player mangled the disc. I thought the disc was dirty and the player was having trouble reading the media. Nope! The DVD player lost its region and reset the changes remaining back to five (5).

What is going on here? Is this a sign from above or below that the drive is on its way to the bit bucket? The notebook is less than a year old and the DVD player is rarely used, could it be a another defective HP product? HP support was no help!

Winamp Woes

Winamp is one of my ALL TIME favorite utilities, but one thing that irritates the crap out of me is the funky and unintuitive shortcut keys. For example, one that always bugs me is the cheesy "search" implementation.

If one wants to search for a song, users MUST open the "Jump to file" dialog using the "j" shortcut key or selecting the "Jump to file" item on the Playback menu. Why is search on the "Jump to file" dialog? How about "G"oto, "F"ind or "S"earch?

Biatch Slapped

Heading, "Wife bans FBI head from online banking". Haha! The FBI director was lured into a phishing scam and his wife bans him from conducting online banking transactions! Hmm, and this stooge is running the FBI? Oh shit, code red. It's a cyber attack!!!

FBI Director Robert Mueller was banned by his wife from doing online banking after he nearly fell for a phishing scam, he said on Wednesday during a talk at the Commonwealth Club of California.

Double Jinx

Dammit! I think I jinxed myself with the recent virus cleaner post, because I was the victim of malware! Check out the crap below, I found the batch file and executable hiding in the application data folder.

:try
taskkill /im puvutabo.exe /f
del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\puvutabo.exe"
if exist "C:\WINDOWS\system32\puvutabo.exe" goto try
cmd.exe /c start C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\72073120\72073120.exe /install
del "C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\72073120\72073120.bat"
exit

SOB! Luckily, I have UBCD4WIN and the Sysinternals Suite at my disposal. Kapow!! Take that malware! In addition to the Bootable CD and Sysinternals, I used the always handy Unlocker utility to delete the damn files. I hope I don't jinx myself again, ha.

The word is spelled "successful" with only one 'L'. That is all.

VoIP on iPhone

I just read that AT&T is going to allow VoIP on its 3G Network. Okay, who are they trying to bullshit? Is it a coincidence that AT&T changes their policy with all of the recent news and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on their ass? No!

AT&T subscribers, enjoy VoIP while you can before AT&T decides to charge a small fee for the service! Does the latest news mean we will see Google Voice on the iPhone? I will post an update as soon as I hear or read something.

Sexy Feet (06)

Okay, time for a quick update and a photo! I have several models lined up for the site, but lost the damn photographer! Flakes, flakes, flakes. One of the models wants to bring on a photographer "friend", but we all know where that will go.

Enough of the bad news, below is another pair of sexy feet for our readers. High arch with fire red toenail polish, hot stuff. Well, back to the drawing board for now. If I had the time, I would volunteer to do the photo shoots too. Crap!

Lost My Region

I planned on watching a DVD on my laptop while I worked on some administrative stuff. Not so fast, because my DVD player lost its region setting. Wassup? I had to reset the region to Region 1 (USA, Canada).

I have ZERO clue how the DVD region was reset, but am more disturbed that I can change the region ONLY 5 times. Not that I expect to change it again, but this seems like another lame protection scheme. I will find out how to "extend" it and post a workaround!
