Enlighten Me

The laptop drive, which took a dump a few days ago, is fixed! When the laptop didn't boot, I knew it was not going to be the usual walk in the park. I was right! Diagnosis and repair of the drive took 2 hours, plus another 6 hours for imaging and complete scan!

I am by no means a hardware guy, but know enough to be dangerous. Plus, I have "Let Me Google That For You" at my fingertips in case I get stuck. I will spare you the details, but I do want to share another handy-dandy tool for the DIY crowd.

Do you hate attended Windows installations? I do, because I have to enter the product key, configure settings, and "tweak" it afterwards. This process alone can take an hour or so. I typically use a base image created with the nLite Tool ... check it out.

CES 2010 Gadgets

Well, CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2010 is over and I am catching up on the latest and greatest products. I am skipping the latest television technologies, public service gadgets, and other crap. I am heading straight for the computer, gaming, and mobile goodies.

I am looking for a new phone, so I am checking out the mobile candidates. CES 2010 was all about Android (I keep telling you mofos! jump on that shit before it's too late). There are a couple of cool phones, but the one that caught my eye is the Lenovo LePhone.

Writer’s Block

What the hell? I have been publishing new posts each day for 370 plus consecutive days and now that I want to write the restaurant review, I have writer's block. I think the problem is that all previous posts have been spontaneous and not planned ahead, so now I feel stuck!

I planned on writing a review on Seoul Restaurant, which details and rates the restaurant's ambience, food, costs, service, etc. versus the typical rant. Well, it is not happening today but I will post a review soon.

Also, is it just me or did anyone else have an upset stomach afterwards? I think the chicken did me in, because I was not feeling well after dinner. I still need a BBQ fix, so I am heading down the yellow brick road next weekend.

Block Web Ads

I don't know about others, but I am sick and tired of web ads! Some websites have so many damn ads that it takes forever to load the pages. Yeah, these websites are monetizing their traffic but there has to be a balance between acceptable and spam!

I am using the handy dandy MVPS HOST file to block ads, banners, and tracking cookies but it is not the ideal solution. Also, the latest version of the file is over 600k and appears to be slowing lookups down. If you know of a MVPS HOST "lite" or have any tips, let me know.

Since I touched on the subject of spam, what is up with the latest rush in blog spam? Over the past couple weeks; this blog has received tons of spam from Russian domains. Wassup? You are welcome to visit, but keep the useless spam to yourself. Thanks Akismet!

Drive Down!

Crap! I planned on writing a restaurant review, but a pressing issue has come up. Nope, not trying to get out of writing the review. Another laptop has been infected, but this time the drive settings appear to be "tore up from the floor up" (my technical term for jacked up).

Why the hurry? This particular drive has quite of bit of personal items on it, which are not replaceable. I am going to image the drive to an external drive and then attempt to restore the disk. By the end of the year, I will have performed this 20+ times. Nice!

Identity Theft

What is going on? I was checking out Live Messenger and noticed some interesting updates. My blog posts are reported as being added by one of my contacts. Has someone stolen my identity? The Live website shows the same status. Gman, do you have a feed to this blog?

Do Jelly Beans Count?

I read Gman's post titled, "Don't break the chain" and learned that I am suppose to place a big red "X" over the day. Instead, I have been placing yummy jelly jeans over each day (and eating them too). I guess this explains the gain in weight over the past year. Crap!

The “N” Word

Wassup N____? Nexus is the latest buzz word these days and as leaked a couple weeks ago, Google held their press conference today and officially launched the Nexus website. Many refer to it as a "super" phone and others, like me, believe it is a notch above the Droid.

The Nexus site has a 3D tour and technical specifications, so check it out as needed. Also, it does appear the phone is available with only the T-Mobile 500 minute plan for $79.99 per month. Hmm, can eligible T-Mobile members upgrade to the Nexus One?

Don’t break the chain

In one of my previous comments, I gave the illustrious WassupJose advice to take it down a notch. Maybe I was wrong: http://lifehacker.com/281626/jerry-seinfelds-productivity-secret Don't break the chain; one day at a time, but push to get better.

Remember when "Wassup Jose!" was just something that we said every morning. :)

MSDN Spammed

I guess even the software giants have to worry about spam. Earlier today, I visited the Visual Studio Gallery and was surprised to find 155 spam entries from pills4u and 4upills. I returned a couple minutes ago to capture some screenshots, but the spam is gone.

Ha! You did not think that I would publish this without screenshots did you? No. I captured three screenshots earlier, but wanted to get better screenshots. No problem, I guess the cheese I captured earlier will have to do. Got Spam?
