Wassup Jose Weblog nonsense at its best!

Crystal Reports hates me

I'll keep this short because I just ran out of patience. I was working on a report that had multiple results because of a join. There was really no way around the join and a Select Distinct would have made my life easy. Unfortunately, the version of Crystal I'm working with doesn't allow for the Select Distinct function to work. All the answers on the Interwebs are either funky or tell you to write you own view. I finally broke down and wrote my own view just so i could put a Distinct keyword in there. This means I had to rebind all the report information to the new view. A pain in the ass, but it seemed like a necessary evil that I wouldn't be able to avoid. After rebinding the three associated reports I hit the save button. I hope the following screenshots illustrate my frustration or at least the pitch of my voice as I pressed the save button so I wouldn't lose all my changes.

  1. Sorry to hear that, I think all the developers may have faced same kind of fate once or more.

I was also a victim couple of times.

Which version of Crystal Report are you using?
Did you ever talk to Business Objects or Crystal people?

  2. I’m using 8.5 due to Proj requirements. I came to find out it was because I was trying to remove a certain table. Once the table is removed the memory exception would appear, the file wouldn’t save, and the program crashes. So now I have a report pointing to a view and some random table. Kludgey. I spent close to three hours on this nonsense today. What a waste of time.
