Friends or Enemies

What the heck does this have to do with anything here? Actually, nothing at all but since I am up I felt the urge to post. Today, someone that I am close to was assaulted and robbed in a public place. Yes, it happens daily to others but when it hits home it is a tragedy.

The person is okay, some bruises and loss of some personal items. I was and am still pissed off and want to kick someone's ass to return the favor to the losers. Yes, the person was assaulted by more than one person.

Okay, here is where the friends and enemies title has its context. Later, I learn that this person's friends jumped in and helped stop the fight. I also learned that some friends did nothing and by all accounts were laughing during the assault. WTF!

I understand that some people are not confrontational and avoid issues at all expenses, but watching the assault and laughing. First, there is no way that I am going to sit, watch, and do nothing. Much less laugh about it, morons.

Does this type of behavior define friends and enemies? Probably not, because we all have acquaintances that shadow as friends in our daily lives. Would you jump in or kick off the shoes, scream, and make a run for the border?

Interestingly, this person has been reflecting on friendships and acquaintances. Defining friends and enemies or shall we say people that masquerade as friends. Friendships can be shallow and trivial or deep and long lasting relationships. Take your pick.

The above makes no sense at all, but I needed a forum to rant.

  1. Sorry to hear. It’s hard for me to answer your question. I certainly wouldn’t laugh, but it would definitely depend on the situation. There were times when I was certainly read to throw down for my friends. But its really hard to say until you’re actually there what you would do.

There’s a song by the Flaming Lips called Fight Test that encapsulates your exact feelings.
