Big Ass iPod Touch
Well, Apple announced their new tablet product in S.F. today. It is indeed named the iPad and runs an iPhone-like OS. I am still catching up on the hype, but it appears to run native iPhone applications.
It will be available in 6 different configurations and retail from $499 to $829. The Wifi version ships in 60 days followed by the 3G version in 90 days. I am not sure what to think of it, but it is definitely an eBook Reader-Netbook hybrid (which market are you targeting Apple?)
My guess is the iPad will target three (3) basic groups: consumers shopping for a Kindle or eBook reader, consumers shopping for a Netbook, and of course the Elitists that must have every Apple product.
Rewind! Back to the functionality of the iPad. It really is a big ass iPod Touch with content delivery support. I like gadgets just as much as the next person, but the big ass iPod Touch is not for me. Instead, I would spend the dough on a Dell Vostro v13.
Here are some quick Specs:
- Six configurations (16GB, 32GB, 64GB, Wifi-only or Wifi and 3G)
- Priced @ $499, $599, $699 for Wifi-only versions.
- Priced @ $629, $729, $829 for Wifi and 3G versions.
- 1GHz Apple Chip (A4)
- 9.7" LCD (1024 x 768 resolution)
- 1.5 Pounds, 0.5" thick
- Wifi (802.11 a/b/g/n)
- Bluetooth
- AT&T 3G Provider (BOO! When will these mofos go away?)
- Charging Dock (Accessory)
- Keyboard Dock (Accessory)
Hmm, one more item for the developers in the group. The latest version of the iPhone SDK supports the iPad and includes an iPad simulator. It could be the niche indies were waiting for, since the App Store is a virtual meat market now.

Love the title. The price is nice though. I just wish this wasn’t Apple’s hardware.
Good work to them though. Keep the innovation coming.
