Diamond VC500 Driver Issue

If you recently upgraded to Windows 7 and are having problems with the VC500 driver, you are not alone. I had to mess with the install, but finally got it to work. I should note it was previously installed on Windows XP 32-bit, so the jump to Windows 7 64-bit was not trivial.

If you want to skip the trial and error, go to the Diamond site and download the latest Vista 64-bit drivers. Yup! You got it, Windows Vista drivers on Windows 7. Extract the archive to a temporary folder and follow the steps below:

  • Select the driver setup.exe file.
  • Right-click to access the context menu.
  • Select the "Troubleshoot compatibility" option.
  • Let the wizard select the compatibility setting.
  • Install the driver (accept defaults and finish).
  • Save the recommend compatibility settings.
  • Exit the compatibility wizard.

If you encounter any issues, go to the device manager and locate the USB device. Update the driver automatically and the conflict is fixed. This worked for me. I am using the VC500 on Windows 7 Premium Home 64-bit Edition with no problems. Good Luck!

  3. Works with Windows7 – followed your instructions and at first they didn’t work; then I figured out that I have a brand new computer and I had to download and install DirectX manually. Then it worked. Thanks for the tip!

  4. bought the vc500. am running windows 7 on my laptop… tried to do what you said, and I’m stupid… I can’t get it to work… I need help!!!! Please?

  5. You are great – thanks for helping – Works fine for win7 home premium.

  6. Anybody know if this will work on Windows Server 2008 64-bit? I run WS2008 at home as my home server, and host other OSes using Hyper-V. Unfortunately, I can’t utilize the USB devices in the VMs, otherwise I’d just spin up Windows XP in one and be done with it.

  7. Got this working wit a little tweaking. It defaults to compatibility mode with WinXP service pack 2, but it will only run it SP3. Change that setting in the compatibility mode wizard and it installed fine. Thanks for the help!
